Googling Techniques – Easy & Effective
When I do searching with Google,
many times I feel to have more effective search or wish to know some techniques
with which it is possible to get more relative results which I am looking for.
Today going to share few of the
techniques which I came to know.
First let us talk, How Google
interprets basic search?
Google places “AND” operator between
all search term(s) entered i.e. if one searches for News Reader, Google
interprets it as News AND Reader.
Also it automatically searches for
some plural/singular and grammatical variants i.e. for search of News Reader,
Google searches for News AND Reader OR Readers.
What if one wishes to search “News
Reader” exactly as entered?
Well in that case one must not
put the word News Reader as it is but to put it in quotation marks i.e. “News
Reader”. Now Google will not search for News AND Reader OR Reader but it will
search for News Reader as it is entered.
Now one wishes to search
something and all the matching/relative terms
Well let’s take an example that one
is searching ItemX and wishes Google to show all the other IT companies as ItemX
is. Use “~” (tilled) sign to do so i.e. search ~ItemX and Google will get all
about ItemX as well as other IT companies.
One is looking for specific
file type, how to search?
OK, now say one is looking for
either pdf, docx, ico, ppt, xls or any other specific file type. To get exact
result say one need to get Microsoft .Net MVC4 e-book in pdf format for this
search should be – “Microsoft .Net MVC4″ filetype:pdf. Now search result will
get all the pdf files with expected search term.
What, you wish to search but
excluding some results?
Many times one feels that let me
search some term but it should exclude specific term i.e. let’s say I wish to
search for Nano but don’t wish to get search result related to Nano Car.
Here is the technique, search term
should be – nano -car, now it will not give search result for Nano Car.
What if one wish to search something
on specific site?
Smile, Google is ready with
solution. Write the term to search with post-fix site:domain.com i.e. say one
wishes to search for Bajaj on moneycontrol.com now search box will be filled by
– site: e.g. bajaj site:moneycontrol.com
OK good, now one wishes to
search all the sites which links to a particular site
Hmmm, I am thinking of a person
looking for all the sites which links to reliance.com. The one should enter
search phrase as – link: e.g. link:reliance.com
Oh, so you have found a site and
wish to find other sites like that?
Hey, I found a nice online shopping
site and wish to get all the sites those are there for online shopping. No
problem, just search with – related: e.g. related:flipkart.com
Looking for a definition?
Search – define: e.g.
define:knowledge
Want to get
calculation result?
Just write the expression in search
box and woohooo here is the result – (1+2) * 8 / 3 = ?? or (sqrt 64) = ??.
Now is the limit, unit conversion?
OK OK, it will do unit conversion
also… Here you go, 1 USD in INR, 1 pound in kg, 1 mile in km

To get movie information
Google hack for finding direct links
warning: do not try this in office or workplace.
So say one is looking for specific
video. Search in Google and go to site where whole webpage will load, find the
link, click it, may be more than one clicks required… too much, right?
Search like this – intitle:”index.of”(mp3|mp4|avi|mpeg)
indian fusion – this will give all the sites and on click of it one will
get direct link to specific file rather than going on to the webpage and moving
around.
